Please Re-Elect

Dave Hart

to your Municipal Council
as your Representative
for Merrickville Ward

  • Merrickville-Wolford is a wonderful combination of growing families, retirement living and small business in a rural atmosphere. It has been my honour, as your Councillor at Large, to have been part of sustaining these values, while working with you to promote needed changes.

I have been a strong supporter of the necessary changes that were made to the Landfill. The implementation of the 'bag tags' will hopefully reduce our garbage and extend its life, while saving the tax payer much needed money.

I support the implementation of the Ground Water Study recommendations and will work towards the completion of all of the report to further conserve our ground water. I have fully supported the installation of our water meters and will work together with council to find the best solution to expansion of the sewage treatment plant. I have been a strong supporter of private funding of high speed internet and telecommunications and I have worked hard with various community groups to promote the health and safety of our community as a smoke free and cosmetic pesticide free village. I will continue to work hard on your behalf. More importantly, I will continue to be accessible to you so please call me at 269-2418 or email me: dave@davehart.ca and participate in the forums at sundog.ca.

    Dave Hart
    Councillor
    Merrickville Ward

  • Dave Hart was raised near a small town in southwestern Ontario. He became a Wolford resident in 1978. In 1983, he purchased Collar Hill Nursery and partnered a small agricultural business for several years. He moved into the village of Merrickville in 1994. Dave's daughter attends Queen's University and his son North Grenville District High School. Academic, professional and volunteer experiences have given Dave valuable skills to bring to his efforts as your Councillor:

    • Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Philosophy from the University of Guelph
    • 2 years of a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Guelph
    • Computer Programming courses at Algonquin College
    • At the Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit for ten years, Dave was at first a case manager and then a manager, supporting clients with a developmental delay, throughout the rural area. He was exposed to rural planning and environmental issues, was directly involved with emergency planning, provincial programs and writing funding proposals.
    • Currently Dave is an Outreach Worker with Lanark County Mental Health helping people with mental health and legal issues.
    • As a member of the Merrickville Planning & Advisory Committee for five years, Dave was heavily involved in the development of the current official plan. For the last three years, Dave has been a Council Representative for P.A.C.
    • As Chairman of Buenavista on the Rideau currently negotiating transfer to new Merrickville based program.

  • Areas of concern that Dave has worked on and will work to improve:

    • local environment - landfill, water quality and sewage (his house is on septic and well) elimination of cosmetic pesticides and herbicides, in Merrickville Ward
    • responsible and transparent financial management - accountable use of taxpayers money
    • fair property taxation - economic growth brings higher taxes and higher property values, but that can be a mixed blessing to people on fixed incomes
    • planned residential growth with parks and services
    • planned business growth ensuring adequate parking, traffic flow and bicycle racks
    • open, accessible government - with input welcome from all
    • equitable distribution of resources and services to all Merrickville-Wolford residents - for instance, road maintenance and plowing
    • access to high-speed internet and telecommunication services using private funding not yours
    • energy conservation and efficiency - Dave helped bring natural gas to the area
    • balancing needs of seniors, families, business, agriculture, commuters and long-time residents
    • open to new ideas, let me know what you think
